The Merrittocracy

Founded on the belief that facts don't have a party, but they do have a price.

Most people don't have time to read the 1,200-page appropriations bills or the dry tactical reports. So let me - I read about 1,000 words per minute. And I am funny.

As a former Navy Public Affairs Officer, and 25-year PR executive, I was trained to find the signal in the noise. Now, I’m pulling the signal out and showing you exactly what it costs you. No spin. No lies. Just the math of hypocrisy. With some humor.

Welcome to the Watch.

This week’s deep dive: Quit assuming New Mexico is a blue state

I know, I know, no Republican has won statewide office since 2018. Democratic supermajorities in both chambers of the Legislature. Mayors of Albuquerque, Las Cruces and Santa Fe.

But seriously, EVERYONE owns a gun and we’re teeming with Catholic and LDS churches despite having the laxest abortion laws in the country. Just because the GOP broke its brand in Albuquerque doesn’t mean the state at large doesn’t lean moderate-conservative.

A broken Republican Party with some smart tactics by the Democrats will get some major results over 4-5 election cycles. But that doesn’t change the mindset of the electorate or make us liberal.

I read all the boring stuff so you don’t have to.
